MMHBA HISTORY

In 1983, a handful of individuals felt there was a need for representation for area Hispanic business people. That December the Mid-Michigan Hispanic Business Association (MMHBA) was organized as a 501-c6 non-profit organization from the Hispanic Business Alliance steering committee. The group officially began meeting as the MMHBA on January 14, 1984. The objectives of the MMHBA are to bring awareness to local Hispanic businesses and their owners, promote networking among members and local business organizations and to be of service to the community as a whole.  Throughout the year, the MMHBA sponsors or co-sponsors “business-to-business and social events where new entrepreneurs, established business owners and community members can share ideas and discuss ways to collaboratively strengthen our community. The MMHBA is also concerned about the education for future generations of businesspeople. To this end, members have supported local efforts to better the quality of education for all students. The MMHBA stands resolved that effective community members and business leaders are those who are educated and use their knowledge and experience to help others succeed. As the MMHBA approaches its 23rd year as an organization, in 2007, we look back in appreciation on our struggles, accomplishments and overall evolution as an organization. We humbly recall our efforts to aid earthquake victims and other fundraising efforts, our participation in events celebrating our heritage, and in our work to secure representation among local and school government. With our membership steadily increasing, we envision the future to be one of continued success for Hispanic businesses and the communities in which we live and serve.
